Trendy Apartment Decorating Ideas

You fell in love with your downtown Portland apartment for its style, location, and views. Lately we have all been spending a bit more time in our homes, making this a great time to freshen up its décor.

Vintage Furniture

One of 2020’s biggest trends is mixing vintage furniture with modern and contemporary pieces. Try adding an antique chair with a glass or Lucite table, or turn a shabby chic chair into a bedside table. The trick is to use only one or two pieces for the biggest impact. With all the great vintage furniture and antique shops in Portland, it might be hard to just choose two, but resist filling your apartment with too many vintage items.

Here are two shops that are open and/or have online ordering

Vintage Pink – 2500 South East Hawthorne Boulevard

Lounge Lizard – multiple locations

2020 Apartment Color Trends

Instantly add style to your Linc 301 apartment in downtown Portland by using one of this year’s home décor color trends. Add pillows or a rug using vibrant yellow and orange hues! One of this year’s color is Chinese Porcelain blue. Another great choice for an elegant pop is Emerald green.  Any of these colors can be used for a statement piece like wall art or furniture.

Add Light

Adding lights to any room in your apartment adds texture and color.

Add a colored glass table lamp in your bedroom or living room. An architect’s floor lamp adds a playful style and the jointed body makes using adjusting the lamp a breeze.

Another great lighting option making into designer rooms in 2020 is Asian inspired lighting using rice-paper. Whether you choose a floor lamp, a simple table lamp, or just replace a shade, paper-rice lamps add simplicity and sophistication to any room in your apartment.

These trendy apartment decorating tips are sure to refresh your apartment’s décor and are available at local stores or online.

Remote Working Tips from Your Apartment

Apartments in PortlandOver the last several weeks more of us have found ourselves working remotely from our Portland apartments. Endless Zoom meetings, tripping over cords, and interruptions by roommates, spouses, kids, or pets are all adding to the stress of working from home. Try these tips to help stay productive and maintain balance in your apartment in Portland.

Set Regular Hours

Setting regular hours is important to your mental and physical well-being. Be certain to set your alarm clock, take scheduled breaks for lunch, and set a finishing time.

Create a Morning Routine

Do not just get up and start working. Instead, make a cup of coffee, have some breakfast, watch the news, exercise, and get dressed every day!
Set Boundaries

If you share your Portland apartment with others, be sure to set some ground rules. Let them know what space you are using for remote working, as well as when your workday starts and ends. Talk about the day’s meeting schedules each morning so that roommates, family members, and partners know.

Create a Dedicated Workspace

It is important to create a separate space in your apartment that is dedicated to remote working. When your workday is finished, leave the area, and enjoy the rest of your apartment. Separation is a great way to deal with the stress that is associated with remote working.

Get Up and Stretch

Sitting in front of a computer all day is taxing, both mentally and physically. Get up periodically and stretch or go to your private deck for fresh air and a change of scenery.

Get Out

We mean get out of your apartment. It is key to get out and get some fresh air, to exercise, and change the scenery. Do so safely in guidelines with the CDC, the state, and Linc301 apartments, following self-distancing rules.

Do not forget that pets need fresh air too! The next time you get up to take a break, instead of reaching for a snack, take your dog for a walk.

These easy to follow steps will make remote working both productive and stress-free in your Portland apartment at Linc301.

Tips to Explore Portland Like a Native

Apartment in PortlandIf you live or are moving to an apartment in Portland, the largest city in Oregon, you likely know how much it has to offer.

Known for its incredible restaurant scene, lively music, art, Voodoo Doughnuts, and breweries, more than 26 million tourists visit Portland each year.

But you now call your  apartment in downtown Portland home, so here are a few non-touristy things to discover in the city that vows to stay “weird”:

No Voodoo Here

Voodoo Donuts might be the most famous doughnut shop in Portland, but those long lines aren’t populated with residents, instead, the line, sometimes with a 2- hour wait, is filled with out of towners.

While Voodoo doughnuts are delicious and creative, try ordering delivery from these local donut shops instead:

Portland Has a Dormant Volcano Within City Limits

Portland is one of two cities in the United States to have a dormant volcano within city limits. But, have no fear, Mount Tabor is extinct, which means it poses no threat to this beautiful city. Nonetheless, this must-see sight serves as a great location for hiking and houses several different trails for you to explore. Most trails are bike and dog friendly, meaning that you can get your exercise with your four-legged friend while exploring the beautiful wonders of nature.

Getting Around Town is as Easy as A, B, C

If you want to get around town, just remember A, B, C – 1, 2, 3! The streets of Northwest Portland are numbered from east to west and alphabetically from south to north. Easy, right?

We know that you love your Linc 301 apartment in Portland and we hope that these helpful and somewhat weird tips will act as a guide to enjoying Portland like a native!

5 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Portland Apartment

With so many great things to do in spring near your Portland apartment at Linc 301, we understand that spring cleaning your apartment isn’t top of your list. But deep cleaning doesn’t have to take up your entire weekend. We have put together a list of helpful tips on how to quickly clean your apartment so you can get out and enjoy the spring weather in Portland.

1. Declutter

One of the reasons for putting off cleaning your apartment is not knowing where to start. If you pick up clutter first by putting things where they belong and cleaning out closets, cabinets, and drawers, you will make it easier to deep clean, sweep, dust, and vacuum.  Throw away items that have expired or you no longer use and donate items that others may find useful.

2. All Purpose Cleaner and Other Tools

Now that you have decluttered your apartment, it is time to get serious and do some deep spring cleaning. Start by gathering the tools that you will need for every task. Use an all-purpose cleaner for most spring cleaning chores. There are multiple brands available, and even some all-natural options, such as Meyer’s All-Purpose Cleaner. Selecting a good all-purpose cleaner will save you both time and money. You will also need paper towels, a soft cloth, a bathroom cleaner, a broom and dustpan, a toilet brush, and a vacuum cleaner.

3. Clean the Kitchen and Bathrooms First

Start in the bathroom. Getting the least pleasant chore done first will not only feel good but will keep you motivated to do the less pleasant tasks. That means starting with the toilet and the tub. There are several toilet cleaners available, but you can also use baking soda and vinegar to get your toilet bowl sparkling clean. Your tub is next. Use a mild abrasive to clean the tub, its surroundings, the faucet, and spout.

Don’t forget the mirrors, doorknobs, and light switches. When you are done, turn off the lights, pat yourself on the back, and head to the kitchen next.

Start cleaning your kitchen by cleaning and wiping down the inside and outside of the refrigerator, then turn your attention to the stove and cabinets. Wipe down all the doors and inside of the drawers. Wipe out the stove and remove any spills, then clean the stove top and counters. Lastly, clean the kitchen floor, the sink, and the faucets.

Look around. You did it; your kitchen is sparkling clean!

4. Dust and Vacuum

Move furniture away from the walls and pick up and shake the rugs so that you can dust baseboards, shelves, and windowsills. While furniture is still away from the walls, vacuum those areas, getting rid of any dust bunnies that have hidden over the winter months.

5. Make Cleaning Fun

We know, cleaning isn’t on your list of top fun things to do in Portland on a weekend, but cleaning can be both enjoyable and rewarding. Blast some music or throw on a movie or podcast and bring it with you around your apartment as you clean different rooms.

Creating a cleaning strategy, setting goals, and being creative can make spring cleaning your Portland apartment more enjoyable.  And, once it is done, don’t forget to reward yourself by heading out to your favorite coffee, pastry, or ice cream shop to celebrate.

Not sure where to go for coffee? These coffee shops are fan favorites and are very close to your apartment on Lincoln Street.

The time-honored traditions of the Thanksgiving season are here! What better way to get into the spirit than gathering ‘round the table with loved ones, tucking into some turkey, and celebrating being together? How about with some football! The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl is a true all-American custom, but did you know that this tradition goes back almost as far as the first Thanksgiving ever?

All-American Holiday Meets All-American Sport

Just six years after Turkey Day #1, Philadelphia, PA held a game-changing football match in 1869, between The Young American Cricket Club and the Germantown Cricket Club. Later, another important American city would follow in Philadelphia’s footsteps: New York! From 1876 to 1881, a Thanksgiving match between Yale and Princeton became a popular holiday practice. When the Intercollegiate Football Association recognized Thanksgiving Day football as a national event in 1882, it officially stamped the custom into our culture. Today, watching or playing football on Thanksgiving is as holiday-spirited as apple pie! But where did the term “Turkey Bowl” come from? When participating high school teams named their games after the gobbling bird, it simply caught on!

The NFL will host three exciting matches throughout the day: Chicago Bears v. Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills v. Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints v. Atlanta Falcons. Click here for the times they’re airing so you can plan your Thanksgiving prep around cheering on your faves with your family!

Other Spirited Options

Rather throw a Turkey Bowl of your own? Planning a match at a public park is a great way to spread togetherness and good-natured competition with your fellow Linc 301 residents!
