If you live or are moving to an apartment in Portland, the largest city in Oregon, you likely know how much it has to offer.
Known for its incredible restaurant scene, lively music, art, Voodoo Doughnuts, and breweries, more than 26 million tourists visit Portland each year.
But you now call your apartment in downtown Portland home, so here are a few non-touristy things to discover in the city that vows to stay “weird”:
No Voodoo Here
Voodoo Donuts might be the most famous doughnut shop in Portland, but those long lines aren’t populated with residents, instead, the line, sometimes with a 2- hour wait, is filled with out of towners.
While Voodoo doughnuts are delicious and creative, try ordering delivery from these local donut shops instead:

Not Just for Beer Lovers
Yes, Portland has over 60 craft breweries, and yes, Portlanders LOVE their craft brew, but they also love wine.
Sample wine from the region at the Southwest Wine Collective at 2425 SE 35th Place. This urban winery and wine bar serves samplings from Oregon’s finest wineries. They currently offer takeout and delivery so that you can enjoy their delicious food and drinks in the comfort of your home. They normally host events with guest winemakers, a wine series, and more fun events. Many of their events are currently canceled, however, you can keep up to date with the status on their site.
Portland Has a Dormant Volcano Within City Limits
Portland is one of two cities in the United States to have a dormant volcano within city limits. But, have no fear, Mount Tabor is extinct, which means it poses no threat to this beautiful city. Nonetheless, this must-see sight serves as a great location for hiking and houses several different trails for you to explore. Most trails are bike and dog friendly, meaning that you can get your exercise with your four-legged friend while exploring the beautiful wonders of nature.
Getting Around Town is as Easy as A, B, C
If you want to get around town, just remember A, B, C – 1, 2, 3! The streets of Northwest Portland are numbered from east to west and alphabetically from south to north. Easy, right?
